Newark Post: City's environmental consultant deems TDC project 'not green'

The city hired an environmental consultant to evaluate The Data Centers, LLC’s application for a DNREC air permit, and on Monday, Gavin L. Biebuyck, principal and owner of Liberty Environmental, Inc., weighed in on the proposed 279-megawatt power plant slated for the STAR Campus. Biebuyck presented Liberty’s findings to city council during a special meeting held Monday night in council chambers where he shared several “concerns” regarding TDC’s air permit, deeming some of the company’s claims “questionable,” “incorrect” and “misleading.”

“This project is to some extent clean but it’s certainly not green,” he said.

Liberty conducted a technical review of the air quality permit application TDC submitted to DNREC in November by evaluating TDC’s compliance with air quality regulatory and permitting requirements, but Biebuyck said they did not look into noise, wastewater, storm water or utility impacts associated with the proposed project.
