Newark Post: Panel debates pros, cons of TDC project

Discussions on The Data Centers, LLC's proposed data center and 279-megawatt power plant for the University of Delaware STAR Campus continued Wednesday night during a “Teach-In” in Amy DuPont Hall hosted by the university's Sustainability Task Force. TDC engineer Rick Beringer, TDC Vice President of Business Development and Sales Brian Honish and Delaware Jobs Now lobbyist Jim Black faced off against Steve Hegedus, a scientist at UD's Institute of Energy Conversion, and Willet Kempton, a professor in UD's College of Earth, Ocean and Environment and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as both sides argued the potential benefits and drawbacks of having the controversial facility in Newark. Beringer said building on the STAR Campus would involve redeveloping the former Chrysler site, which is considered a brownfield site and contains existing infrastructure TDC plans to utilize.
