UDaily: DENIN Ambassadors to scoop free Dairy ice cream for the UD community on May 13

The Delaware Environmental Institute (DENIN) Ambassadors will be scooping UDairy Creamery ice cream cones on Friday, May 13, at the north end of the Central Green near the Delaware Avenue crosswalk. Free ice cream will be provided between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. or while supplies last. The annual “Ice Cream for the Earth” event is a fun way to get students to think about the natural environment, says senior Marisa Andreazza, co-chair of the DENIN Ambassadors.

“As students are waiting for their ice cream, we ask them the question ‘Why do you scream for the Earth?’ and record their answers on a whiteboard,” she says. “Then we take a photo to post on DENIN’s Facebook page. Answers in the past have been quite diverse.”

The featured ice cream will be “DENIN Dirt,” a custom flavor created for DENIN to mark the United Nations’ International Year of Soils in 2015. It consists of chocolate ice cream with Oreo cookie crumbs and gummy worms mixed in.
