The University of Delaware’s College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment (CEOE) will host Cyclops 1 – one of OceanGate's manned submersibles – on the Hugh R. Sharp Campus in Lewes during the fall semester as a pilot for a potential longer-term agreement and collaboration, Mohsen Badiey, acting dean of the college, has announced. OceanGate is a privately held company that provides manned submersible assets and expertise for industry, research and exploration.

“The University of Delaware and CEOE provide a unique opportunity for ocean access and a first-class operations base for our expedition team on the East Coast,” said Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate. “We are excited to explore the local waters with CEOE research scientists and are looking forward to the prospect of a long-term collaboration with this world-class university.”

“CEOE has actively been exploring collaborations between industry and academia in the area of environmental technology,” said Badiey. “Cyclops is here to trigger research questions – for our scientists to image how they can use this technology and how it can be used to complement the full suite of tools available to CEOE scientists and students.”
